We Won—Again! Thank You, Santa Cruz!
We Won—Again! Thank You, Santa Cruz!
When the Santa Cruz Planning Commission unanimously approved our events space, we thought we had finally overcome the obstacles keeping us from bringing live music, arts, and cultural gatherings back to Woodhouse. But just days later, Guy and Stacey Mitchell, along with Santa Cruz Core Fitness, filed an appeal—forcing us to fight the same battle all over again, this time before the City Council.
They claimed our events would somehow devalue their property—despite the fact that we are in a commercial zone, next to active train tracks, where 140-decibel horns regularly sound. They also dismissed the overwhelming public support for Woodhouse, belittling the voices of those who stood up to share what this space means to them.
But once again, the community showed up, and the truth won out. The City Council upheld our approval, rejecting their appeal and ensuring that Woodhouse will continue to be a home for live music, local art, and community connection.
This wasn’t just about saving an event space. It was about defending the kind of city we want to be—one that values creativity over complaints, culture over control, and a thriving, connected community over the interests of a few.
We are grateful beyond words for your support. You showed up. You spoke out. And together, we won.
We remain committed to being good neighbors and stewards of the community—supporting local artists, hosting meaningful events, and keeping Santa Cruz vibrant and welcoming for all.
Thank you for believing in us. The best is still ahead.
With gratitude,
Woodhouse Blending & Brewing
